How To Find Your SA302 HMRC Tax Calculation.
Did you know that you can find your own tax calculation (for self employed people– and directors who file Self-Assessment Tax Returns)?
Here is a step-by-step guide we share with our clients on downloading their tax calculation from HMRC.
So long as you have access to your own Government Gateway account, you can do it too.
Downloading Your SA302 Tax Calculation:
STEP 1: Log in to your Government Gateway Account
- Open a web browser and go to:
https://www.gov.uk/log-in-register-hmrc-online-services - Click Sign in to your account.
- Enter your Government Gateway User ID and Password.
- You may need to enter a 6-digit security code sent to your phone/email.
STEP 2: Navigate to Your Self-Assessment Tax Account
- Once logged in, look for the section titled “Self Assessment”.
- Click “More Self Assessment details” (or similar wording).
- Find the option for “Tax Return Options” or “View your tax return”.
STEP 3: Select the Correct Tax Year
- Look for a list of tax years (e.g., 2023/24, 2022/23, etc.).
- Click on the most recent tax year you need (or the one requested).
- Click Go
- Scroll down the page slightly, and under the tax year click on view return.
STEP 4: Download the SA302 Tax Calculation Overview
- Once inside the chosen tax year, look for “View your Tax Calculation” or “SA302”.
- Click “View your Tax Calculation”.
- You should now see a summary of your income, tax paid, and tax due.
- Click “View and print your full calculation” or “Download” (this may appear as a PDF option),
then print your full calculation. - Save the document to your device or print.
STEP 5: Send or Print Your SA302
1. If your accountant needs it, email the PDF or upload it to a shared drive.
2. If needed for a mortgage application, print it and send it to your lender.
3. Keep a copy saved securely for your records.
